Inspiration
We were inspired, by the Rochester community and all the work that charitabe organizations do for the Rochester community. We decided to create to help aid those charitable organazations outreach to the community effectively.
What it does
The web application curates items needed in the community posted by local organizations, and display upcoming volunteer opportunities.
How we built it
We built this app by way of a React front end backed by a C# backend, storing all the data in a cloud SQL database. It took a lot of hard work and dedication to complete this app.
Challenges we ran into
As it turns out, coding overnight is very difficult when you are extremely tired and just want to sleep, so that was a little of bit of a hardship. We also ran into several different framework issues and just learning boundries with some of the new technologies we were using.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are most proud of the design of the application, we believe it follows good UX principles and looks good in the process. We are also proud we were able to deploy the entire app in Azure. Additionally, we were proud we were able to use google cloud platform for single sign on.
What we learned
We learned that Visual studio for mac isn't very good. We also learned that a project idea in concept sounds easy, but impletation takes a long time to implement correctly especially when you hit road blocks. Additionally, design before you start coding is imperative for an easy process.
What's next for GiftHumanity
We seek to deploy GiftHumanity to the world and let people interact with their community via our site.
