Inspiration

One of the biggest gaps in modern education is the lack of financial literacy, leaving many young adults unprepared to manage their money effectively. Many of us have seen firsthand how financial struggles impact people’s lives, and we realized that not everyone has access to essential financial education. That’s why we built GholdengoFinance—an intuitive platform designed to bridge this knowledge gap, helping users track their finances, gain expert guidance, and practice real-world financial decision-making.

What it does

Our app is designed to improve financial literacy through three core features: an expense tracker, an AI-powered financial advisor, and an interactive real-life scenarios section.

  • Expense Tracker: Users can log their income and spending, categorize transactions, and visualize their financial habits through an interactive graph, making budgeting easier.

  • AI Financial Advisor: An intelligent assistant that analyzes user data and offers personalized advice on budgeting, saving, and financial planning based on their spending patterns.

  • Real-Life Scenarios: Users engage in AI-generated financial challenges covering topics like budgeting, debt management, investing, and emergency planning. The app provides real-time feedback to help users make smarter financial decisions when they face these situations in real life.

How we built it

We built the app using TypeScript/JavaScript with React, HTML, and CSS. We utilized libraries like Tailwind CSS, Radix UI, and Lucide React for the UI. The AI capabilities are powered by OpenAI’s API, using free tokens. Development was streamlined with tools like VS Code, GitHub Copilot, and Lovable.

Challenges we ran into

One of the biggest challenges was integrating AI across multiple features while ensuring accurate and helpful responses. Fine-tuning the system roles for the AI assistant and financial scenarios took time to optimize. Additionally, designing an intuitive and engaging user experience required multiple iterations.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We’re especially proud of the financial scenarios section, which turns learning into an interactive experience. Instead of just presenting financial lessons, the app allows users to test their knowledge in simulated real-world situations and receive personalized feedback, making learning both engaging and effective.

What we learned

Throughout development, we explored new libraries and frameworks to enhance user experience. We also gained valuable insights into AI integration and how to structure data for meaningful financial insights. Additionally, tools like Copilot and Lovable significantly improved productivity and debugging.

What's next for GholdengoFinance

Moving forward, we plan to introduce gamified financial lessons to make learning even more engaging. Additionally, we aim to train a custom financial AI model, ensuring smarter and more tailored feedback. Expanding data visualization tools and adding collaborative features are also on our roadmap to help users take full control of their financial future.
