Inspiration
I worked with one of the largest online travel agencies and led their UGC (reviews and ratings platform) team. Most of the valuable, authentic travel user generated content now lives outside the big travel players inside applications like instagram, Facebook, yelp and foursquare. Unlike the good old SEO days the content is now searched on smaller devices and more and more on wearables going forward.
There is a massive shift coming in front of us with Apple Watch and other wearable devices taking over how we experience our trips.
What it does
Getaways provides beautiful wearable and mobile apps for travelers to search, book and experience their trips right from their wearable and mobile devices.
How I built it
The initial product is an iOS/watchOS application which I built using Skyscanner hotels API.
Challenges I ran into
The initial seed static data for hotels was an initial issue that I solved using the Skyscanner API.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
Proud of creating an aggregated hotels entity combining APIs from instagram, Facebook and Skyscanner.
What I learned
Curating the hotels entity is going to be critical for the success of this application.
What's next for Getaways
Complete the first version of the application for iOS and then move the experience over to watchOS and tvOS.
