Inspiration

This project was inspired by the concept of having a fun and interactive way of sharing memories and photos of the world around you with others, without the need for intrusive social media apps. Rather, our project aims to encourage people to explore their communities and share the photos they take along the way.

What it does

It does this by using geo location to show the photos taken in the same location you are currently. You can only see the photos that are near your location, and the fun game like interface encourages you to find them. Additionally, photos are uploaded through github. The biggest factor that makes our app unique is that content is crowd sourced through github, and then automatically processed by the back end to find the geo location meta data, and finally added to the map.

How we built it

We built it using the Flask framework, integrated with a unique backed based around our unique image sourcing system that utilizes github.

Challenges we ran into

We initially were planning to use node js but were unable to properly integrated it with the backend given its complexity, so switched to flask mid way through in an attempt to fix this.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of: Pulling image metadata from git hub Utilizing leaflet Connecting front end to backend Utilizing react js and tailwind css

What we learned

We massively improved our github and collaboration skills.

What's next for Geo Cache Game

We want to fully develop the web application to provide a seamless user experience, and elaborate on the github metadata concept to possibly include more types of data caches that can be hidden around the world.
