Gen-z Translator

Inspiration

We wanted to make a funny tool that could bridge communicatiopn between generations. We wanted to try out multiple technologies like websockets and LLM integration

What it does

It is a chat webapp in which you choose whether you are a boomer or a genz. Then you can chat with someone from the other generation. All messages you sent will be translated in the chat to the corresponding vocabulary/slang. Example: (genz to boomer) Hey gramps lowkey this is mid -> Hello grandpa, this is kind of average.

How we built it

We used next.js, supabase, openai api and vercel

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenge we ran into was integrating the realtime feature of the messaging system. Our notification system took multiple hours to finish. We poured blood, sweat and tears into it.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

That it works! We put it up on internet. We are proud that it is a "finished" product.

What we learned

We learned how to use websockets and llm intergration using ai API

What's next for Gen-z Translater

Updated UI, Getting people on board, making new chat rooms easier, better ai implementation, group chat for the whole family :)****
