Classical music can be beautiful and moving, but many people find it hard to explore due to a lack of guidance or familiarity. Inspired by recommendation systems in platforms like Spotify, we wanted to create a tool that helps users discover classical music based on their unique personality and preferences. What it does

Green Sky is an interactive experience that recommends classical music pieces tailored to the user. By answering a series of thoughtful questions—about their taste in media, favorite instruments, moods, or even past experiences—the system suggests music from different eras, composers, or subgenres that best match their interests. We developed a multi-step questionnaire interface, with each step refining the recommendation process. We tagged musical samples with metadata like mood, instrumentation, composer, and time period. The design was prototyped in Figma, and the logic for recommendations was built using Python. Challenges we ran into

One challenge was translating subjective user preferences (like “uplifting” or “melancholic”) into objective musical features. We also had to balance simplicity with depth—ensuring the user experience remained smooth without losing musical richness. Building a clean and accessible design was another key focus. We also plan to enhance accessibility features, broaden our sample library, and launch Green Sky as a web or mobile application that invites everyone into the world of classical music
