Inspiration
Existing event apps often neglect community building, focusing instead on large-scale or commercial events. This leaves people, like international students or those new to the area, feeling isolated during important cultural or religious occasions. Our solution seeks to fill this gap by focusing on community-centered event discovery, helping users find events tailored to their specific communities and fostering inclusivity and social connection.
What it does
Gather is a culture-centered events app that helps users find and join events suited to their interests and communities. It fosters connections and inclusivity, aiming to reduce isolation, especially for those living in a new area or seeking deeper community engagement.
How we built it
We built Gather entirely through Figma, where we prototyped and designed our platform.
Challenges we ran into
Given the time constraints of this hackathon and the complete creative freedom that we had, we were. unable to properly conduct user research and had to rely on our own experiences to develop the purpose of the app. We also faced some difficulty prototyping in Figma.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of creating a high-fidelity project in such a short period of time, given that none of us have completed a project in this timespan before.
What we learned
We improved our design skills, ability to think quickly, our ideation strategies, delegating tasks to one another, and communication within a team.
What's next for Gather
We hope to further develop this project into a proper case study with further developed prototyping and features.
