📖 Project Story
💡 Inspiration
The idea for Future You – Life Projection Simulator came from a simple question: what would my life look like 25 years from now if I kept my current habits?
We wanted to build something that goes beyond raw numbers — a tool that not only calculates projections but also tells a personal story about the future you. By merging health, climate, and financial data with AI storytelling, we aimed to make future planning more engaging and emotionally impactful.
🛠️ How We Built It
- Frontend: Built with Next.js 14, React 18, and Tailwind CSS for a responsive and modern UI.
- Data Modeling: Health, climate, and financial projections were created using research-backed formulas and multipliers. For example, financial growth uses the compound interest formula:
$$ A = P \cdot (1 + \frac{r}{n})^{nt} $$
- AI Integration: Google Gemini API powers personalized storytelling and lifestyle recommendations.
- Visualizations: Recharts brings projections to life with interactive, animated graphs.
- Sharing & Tracking: Users can save scenarios, share results with unique links, and monitor progress over time.
🚧 Challenges We Faced
- Managing AI output variability to ensure stories stay inspiring, realistic, and relevant.
- Integrating multiple domains (health, climate, finance) into a single cohesive experience.
- Keeping the experience fast, responsive, and visually appealing across devices.
🎓 What We Learned
- The importance of humanizing data through storytelling — numbers alone don’t inspire change, but stories do.
- How small lifestyle adjustments today can compound into massive long-term impacts.
- Deepened our skills in Next.js App Router, TypeScript, AI APIs, and data visualization.
- That building a tool about the future also teaches you a lot about your present habits.
✨ Future You isn’t just a simulator — it’s a mirror, showing how today’s choices shape tomorrow’s reality.
