Inspiration

Adult loneliness is an epidemic. 61% of adults feel lonely regularly, but making friends after college is awkward and hard. We wanted to fix that with something familiar.

What it does

Friendswipe is Tinder for friendships. Swipe through profiles based on hobbies and interests, match with people looking for friends, and chat in-app to build genuine connections.

How we built it

React for the web demo, Gemini AI API for generating random profiles and simulating conversations, clean UI with gradient blue aesthetics, and Firebase for potential backend scaling.

Challenges we ran into

Making AI-generated profiles feel authentic, building smooth swipe mechanics in 13 hours, and balancing demo functionality with realistic user experience.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Fully functional demo with infinite AI-generated profiles, working match system, integrated AI chat that responds in character, and a clean waitlist landing page.

What we learned

AI can power realistic social interactions, swipe mechanics are harder than they look, and there's a massive market gap for adult friendship apps.

What's next for Friendswipe

Mobile app with React Native, real user profiles and matching algorithm, activity-based meetup suggestions, verification systems, and launching to solve adult loneliness at scale.
