Inspiration
Food waste and food insecurity often exist side by side in college dorms. We noticed that leftover food in communal fridges frequently goes uneaten—not because students don’t want it, but because they don’t know it’s there. At the same time, many students struggle to afford consistent meals. We wanted to create a solution that connects these two problems in a simple, realistic way that fits naturally into student life.
What it does
fridge_bot turns communal dorm fridges into shared resources using a messaging‑based system. Students can join a fridge, log leftover food, and receive real‑time notifications and expiration reminders—all without downloading an app or creating an account. This helps ensure food gets eaten before it goes bad and makes free food more visible to students who need it.
