Inspiration

When we met up to talk about our project, we found out we were all either in college or going to college. We found similarities we all had was that we did not know how to cook and were worried about our lack of money.

What it does

Freshly is a search engine with a saved feature, where you can type ingredients in the search bar, and it would save into the database, so the user can access it in the future if they like the receipe.

How we built it

We built it using React and Django. React did all the front end work. Django served as the API for React to access data from.

Challenges we ran into

We lacked time, experience, and had trouble making it responsive. Time was an issue because the hackathon began at 7am in the morning on Friday. We were unable to start on our project until 12 hours into the hackathon because of school. Most of our team members were also not available at the same time, so we could not get as much done as we wanted to. We also lacked experience in coding in React. Getting everything to be responsive was also a problem. Because of all these challenges, we had to pull an all nighter on Saturday to get the project submitted.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud that we were all so motivated to finish this project that we all pulled an all nighter for it. We learned so much from this hackathon, so we have no regrets. We were able to learn React in a weekend. Using react, we learned how to make websites more responsive. We also learned how to use git and GitHub to collaborate with each other. This hackathon taught us so much that we are so glad we joined.

What we learned

We learned a lot from making this project. During this weekend, one thing we learned was React. Using React, we learned how to make websites more responsive. We wanted the screen to look good, whether you were on desktop or laptop. Since we were a large group, we also learned how to use git and GitHub to collaborate with each other. We had some problems with git, but were able to resolve it after some time. Finally, we learned team work because without team work, this project would not be able to exist.

What's next for Freshly

We plan to make a mobile version of Freshly using React Native, so we would have both a website and an app. We also plan on implementing the search API and adding it to the database, so we can implement the saving feature.
