Inspiration

On a trip to Vegas, Akshun saw a truck near a library, and it was a designated meetup for giving out food for people who needed it. Max has volunteered at food pantries before.

What it does

Whenever you buy food, you can upload a picture of your receipt and FreshFirst will keep track of expiration dates for perishable items (you can manually adjust these dates). These dates also who up on a builtin calendar, and you can export reminders for expirations to Google Tasks. You must log in with Google before using it. We have another tab that shows local updates related to giving out food for people who need it, using Instagram embeds. If you have some food that is to expire soon that you don't plan to use, you can post about it for the community, and someone else can claim that food. There is also ChatGPT integration for reading receipts and for planning recipes for your food.

How we built it

Running on Firebase hosting with Firebase database, works with Google sign in for Tasks integration. ChatGPT integration for reading receipts and planning recipes.

Challenges we ran into

  • trying to get uniform formatting

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • no React or other JS frameworks
  • openAI API integration for planning recipes and reading receipts
  • Instagram embeds
  • 3 different pages

What we learned

  • how to use openAI API with images

What's next for FreshFirst

  • small amount of aesthetic polishing
  • possible eventual deployment
  • populating the service with more users
