Inspiration

-The worst a human can face is not able to eat fresh food every day. -We at FreshEase feel that there should be a way to get fresh food to the needy especially food deserts. -The main inspiration behind this idea is the thought that healthy food is a basic necessity for everyone.

No income barrier and transportation requirement should affect this basic need.
The gap between food deserts and fresh food can be bridged by the most reliable delivery system, i.e. through USPS.

The problem:

No availability of fresh food delivery to people in food deserts.
80 % of residents in a food desert have a low income as low as $30,000 annually and no proper mode of transportation.
This causes the population to depend on fast food which deteriorates their health.

Solution:

-The app links people in these devasted areas to the nearest supermarket and delivers fresh food at their doorstep with no delivery or service fee.

We are collaborating with USPS for delivery to these areas at a subsidized rate.
The app crafts a continuous food delivery system by creating a bi-weekly delivery schedule to the area.

* Business Model*

Collaborating with USPS and accessing funds from Michelle Obama Grant (LetsMove) and other existing government grants
Our Initial distribution area is the food desert in Hudson (New Jersey) which has 903 families.
We will achieve a break-even point at serving 900 families at 75 days.
We look forward to expanding it to the food desert in Essex in the next 150 days.

Challenges we ran into

Making a business plan to put together subsidized shopping options without charging delivery and service fee.
Making the app more user-friendly specifically for a focused low-income group.
Making the transportation cost as low as possible.
Creating CSR(Corporate Social Responsibility) for grocery giants to help this initiative.

Accomplishments that we are proud of:

It's an accomplishment to start an idea that was a basic necessity for mankind.
Improving the health standards of people in food deserts.
Making food delivery a common phenomenon in every part of The US.

How we built it:

The initial framework for this app is developed through Adobe XD and it is a user-friendly grocery shopping app.

What's next for FreshEase:

Making fresh food delivery on a daily basis
Expanding the app availability to all other food deserts across the country
Making other amenities)(Medical, Clothing, Lifestyle) accessible to people in food deserts through our app.
