Hackathon Project: Addressing Housing Instability
Inspiration:

Housing instability is a global issue that affects millions of people, from rising rents and evictions to a lack of affordable housing. Witnessing the struggles of individuals and families facing these challenges inspired me to create a solution that not only helps people find housing but also provides them with the tools and resources they need to regain stability. Combining technology with a human-centered approach felt like the perfect way to tackle this complex problem.

What We Learned: This project was a tremendous learning experience. Here are some key takeaways:

**User-Centered Design:** Understanding the needs of users facing housing instability helped me design features that are both practical and empathetic.

**Collaboration:** Working with teammates and mentors taught me the value of diverse perspectives in solving complex problems.

**Data Privacy:** Ensuring user data is protected while delivering personalized services was a critical learning point.

How We Built the Project

  1. AI-Automated Housing Listings

    Tech Stack: Typescript/Gemini/Supabase

Process: We built a scraper to collect housing listings from various platforms and used AI to filter and categorize them based on user preferences.

  2. Chatbot for Assistance

    Tech Stack: Gemini

Process: Designed conversational flows to help users find housing, access resources, and get answers to common questions.

  3. Resources Page

    Tech Stack: React.js/TailwindCSS

Process: Curated a database of local and national resources (e.g., shelters, legal aid, financial assistance) and made it searchable and user-friendly.
