Inspiration
I wanted to create something simple and fun that would brighten someone's day. A playful fortune generator felt like the perfect idea.
What it does
Users can crack open a digital fortune cookie to receive a quick, random fortune. For a more personalized reading, they can type a question into a magical crystal ball and receive a whimsical, AI-generated response. Users have the option to share their responses with friends.
How I built it
I built this website using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, and integrated Google's Gemini Flash 2.0 model to generate custom responses. I used animations and hand-drawn elements are used to give the website a cozy, magical vibe.
Challenges I ran into
Because this was my first time working with an AI model, I initially struggled with implementing the API endpoint connection and creating effective prompts. Through debugging and testing, I learned how to refine the prompts and produce the responses and tone I wanted.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I'm proud of how my user interface came out and the dynamic background animations I created. I'm also excited that I successfully implemented an AI model into my project, as this was my first time working with one.
What I learned
I learned how to connect a frontend project to a generative AI API and how to write prompts that guide the AI's tone and response style. I also gained experience in building interactive, user-friendly interfaces.
What's next for Fortune Teller
I'd like to expand the fortune cookie feature with new "flavors" that generate themed fortunes, like romance or humor. I'm also interested in adding new fortune telling tools, such as tarot cards or a "wish upon a star" feature.
