Inspiration
We wanted a reasonable project for two, while also exploring different technologies and API's.
What it does
Fortune Finances is a website with an AI that gives (not so great) financial advice. Think about how your dad talks about finances, a little mean and entitled, while also being sort of knowledgeable.
How we built it
We used Next.js and React.js to build the frontend of the website. We utilized several API's including Firebase for storing past fortunes, OpenAI GPT4o-mini for the generative AI capabilities, and Auth0 for user authentication.
Challenges we ran into
Getting the API's to play nice with each other was a challenge, especially when we needed to switch from a local development server to a deploying.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We finished the project and have a working website, that's always nice.
What we learned
We learned a fair bit of Next.js and its quirks along with using types in TypeScript. Setting up a complete code stack was also a huge part of this project and something we had never done from scratch before.
What's next for Fortune Finances
We made this project as sort of a joke, but not all of our ideas made it into the final build, so we may look into continuing development with those ideas.
