Inspiration
We came into this hackathon wanting to make both a bullet hell and an RPG. We compromised. We created an intricate story and finished the first chapter of gameplay.
What it does
This game has two main sections, a world scene, and a combat scene. The combat scene acts as a minigame that the player must complete successfully to progress the game.
How we built it
We built this project in Godot Engine and wrote our code in C#. We also used Git to manage our source code across multiple group members.
Challenges we ran into
Git... Merging our code was one of the most difficult things of this hackathon. We once went one and half hours without merging our code together, and when did it was another half hour trying to resolve the merge conflicts.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We were able to finish the first phase of our game with clean animation, good mechanics, and random merges working perfectly.
What we learned
We learned that Git is an absolute beast, and so is Godot engine. We spent most of our time resolving merge issues and debugging exotic Godot bugs. We also learned how to write modular code, which sacrificed development time for scalable, reusable components.
What's next for Forgotten Curse
We originally planned five phases for our game, but in 24 hours we could only finish the first phase, and with minimized versions of the features we had intended. We plan to bring the game back into development, and hope to release a finished product in the near future.
