When I first heard about hackathons, I was intimidated. The idea of solving complex problems under tight time pressure, surrounded by brilliant minds from around the world, felt overwhelming. But something about the challenge excited me. That’s when I teamed up with Believe Amadi, someone just as curious and determined as I was.
We met through a mutual interest in tech and problem-solving, and when the opportunity came to participate in our first hackathon together, we leaped. At first, things were chaotic. We had ideas but no clear direction. Everyone around us seemed so fast, so focused, and we felt a bit lost. But instead of giving up, we leaned into each other's strengths.
Believe had a sharp analytical mind and was great at breaking down the problem, while I focused on strategy, communication, and how to present our solution. We stayed up late, googling, testing, learning from errors, and pushing through moments of doubt.
What truly made the difference was our mindset. We didn’t focus on winning. We focused on learning, improving, and enjoying the process. Every challenge became a puzzle we wanted to figure out to finish and understand. And with each round, each feedback session, we got better.
By the end of the hackathon, not only did we build something we were proud of, but we also found confidence in ourselves and our teamwork. It wasn’t just about the code or the final pitch; it was about the journey, the sleepless hours, the brainstorming, the failures, and the breakthroughs.
Since then, hackathons have become more than just competitions for us. They’ve become places where we grow, connect, and prove to ourselves what we’re capable of when we believe, learn, and never give up.
