Inspiration

This is inspired by work from home where everyone needs to order food and need to come up with choices that we choose. We are used to scrolling through pages and pages of websites searching for choices we want. What is the discovery process when your visitors visit your website? What does the user really feel when going through pages of choices? What is the sequence of actions the user need to take when navigating through the website? What is their first and last impression? A good UX is an answer to these questions.

Recommender systems use artificial intelligence to figure out what to recommend to users of the website what other choices they might like, based on their history of purchases and the choices they have previously chosen. This helps to suggest to the user what they may like and present some choices that are already available to choose from.

This prototype in built from the idea that we are using current technology like voice technology, recommender systems and navigating through websites for a new UX.

What it does

It uses voice user interface and is able to use voice input to allow direct user to an option that is available.

How I built it

I used a paper prototyping to come up with a model and trained it using the latest AI technology available in Amazon. It in a cloud service with the backend provided by Amazon cloud service. I used a computer interface to complete my building and testing. In addition, I tested the app I made using Amazon device to demonstrate this.

Challenges I ran into

There are many scenarios like different words that real people will use and what sounds natural to most people. There are many possibilities of words that can be used.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I am most happy to have come up with a demo prototype where the potential users can have a feel of this idea. I am really happy because this app can potentially help a lot of people, for example people who uses voice interface because it is natural to them.

What I learned

I learnt how I learned to code on the Alexa device using node.js which was intimidating to use for the first time. How to use event handlers and event handling when faced with a new voice interface. Using paper prototype, I redefined what words or utterances a user may use and what reply the chatbot will give me and redirect me to make some available choices. I worked on building a model using the Alexa API and used the microphone on the computer to voice out my request, type out my user input. Finally interface with my Amazon device to complete the protype I have built.

What's next for Foodie App Prototype

Figure out how we can sell the idea to potential customers and figure out who is going to use it. Refine the idea further, other API to use so we can actually get some real options available on the market.
