Inspiration
The FIFA World Cup 2026 is happening RIGHT NOW. 48 teams. Billions of fans. But what if your FOOD decided your team? We wanted to build something that makes an entire room of people laugh, scream, and compete together. Food Cup 2026 was born from one question: what if a croissant could beat a taco in a football tournament?
What it does
Food Cup 2026 is a multiplayer party game where food meets football. Two players compete as captains while the entire audience powers their teams from their phones.
Host creates a game room with a shareable code Two captains join each picks a food emoji (🥐🌮🍣🍔) which assigns them a real FIFA World Cup 2026 country Everyone else joins as fans and picks which team to support live fan counts update in real time Round 1 - Build Your Dish: Captains race to assemble their national dish by tapping ingredients in the correct order while fans sabotage the opposing team by flooding their screen with decoy ingredients Round 2 - Tap Battle: Everyone taps furiously players AND fans to score points for their team with a live tug-of-war bar showing who's winning in real time Round 3 - The Scream-Off: The entire room screams for their team. Device microphones measure volume. The louder side wins. A massive tug-of-war bar shows which team's supporters are screaming louder in real time
Best of 3 rounds wins. The champion gets a golden trophy and a crown on their food emoji. 30 food pun commentary lines provide hilarious play-by-play throughout: "THE CROISSANT RISES UNDER PRESSURE!" / "THE TACO CRUMBLES!"
How we built it
Rork AI Built the entire app using prompt-driven development with Rork Max Anthropic Claude Opus 4.8 Powers the AI food scanning via vision API Supabase Realtime Multiplayer sync so everyone plays from their own phone simultaneously Fotor Tournament poster and marketing assets Web Audio API Crowd-O-Meter microphone detection for the Scream-Off round Web-first Runs in any mobile browser, no download needed
All 48 FIFA World Cup 2026 teams are hardcoded across 12 groups with real match data. Each food has a unique ingredient recipe used in Round 1.
Challenges we ran into
Making the game instantly understandable from one glance took 5 iterations based on live judge feedback during the hackathon Balancing fun for the 2 captains AND 20+ audience members required completely rethinking the game loop three times Real-time multiplayer sync between phones using Supabase Realtime with polling fallback The Scream-Off round needed careful microphone calibration so it works in a noisy room
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Build it alone
What we learned
Involve everyone a game where the whole room participates beats a beautiful game people just watch Three different rounds keep it fresh building, tapping, and screaming are completely different skills Food is universal everyone has an opinion about their country's food which makes every team assignment hilarious The crowd IS the game when fans can sabotage, power up, and scream for their team, nobody is a spectator
