Inspiration

FocusBuddy was inspired by a common problem faced by students — difficulty staying focused during study sessions. Distractions from mobile phones, lack of structured planning, and low consistency often reduce productivity. As a student, I wanted to create a simple and practical solution that helps improve focus and study habits in a real-world way.

What it does

FocusBuddy is an AI-powered productivity assistant that helps students stay focused and organized. It provides personalized study plans, tracks progress, and uses focus techniques like timed sessions to reduce distractions and improve consistency.

How we built it

The project was built by first identifying key student problems such as distraction and poor time management. Based on this, features like focus timers, study planning, and progress tracking were designed. The solution was structured to be simple, user-friendly, and scalable, with scope for future AI-based enhancements.

Challenges we ran into

  • Understanding real student needs without overcomplicating the solution
  • Balancing useful features with a simple interface
  • Designing a practical solution that can actually be implemented
  • Managing time and structuring the project effectively

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Successfully designing a practical and realistic solution
  • Creating a clear and structured approach to solving a real problem
  • Building a project that focuses on usability and impact rather than complexity
  • Completing the project within the given timeline

What we learned

  • Importance of problem-solving before implementation
  • How to think from a user’s perspective
  • Planning and structuring a project effectively
  • Understanding how productivity tools can influence behavior and habits

What's next for FocusBuddy — AI-Powered Productivity Assistant for Students

  • Implement real AI-based recommendations
  • Add distraction-blocking features
  • Improve analytics for tracking long-term progress
