"Doom scrolling to dividends" We are not the standard productivity app, money from your account is transferred to Solana, a crypto currency as a punishment for distraction.
Inspiration: Our inspiration was the fact we all get locking into a doom scroll at times we should be productive throughout the day. Crypto is a very underestimated market and by merging the two we create a punishment that leads to a positive effect. Solana is predicted outperform not only the housing market but many major stocks by over 100%.
What it does: Our application tracks the user and when they get distracted and go on a website that is added to the blacklist such as Instagram or youtube our app tracks it. Every few seconds it charges you a set amount either from a preloaded account on the app or directly from your bank and it buys Solana with the money. You can see how much money you have made and change things that are blocked.
How we built it: Tyson created the backend using vscode. It uses windows tiles to track the website/app you are on and we run the app on localhost. George crafted the general idea then went on to make the frontend and added function to the buttons while also making the app more polished. Jabari made the logo, powerpoint and was our pen tester, attempting to find any weakness. We all looked at issues together and were able to come up with a better flow and solutions.
Challenges we ran into: We struggled for an hour or so with making windows tiles work for our project as a website. Our solution was to move the website to an application which ended up working much better and making the final product feel much more developed.
Accomplishments that we're proud of: The Solana ticker that auto-updates every 5 minutes using coin gecko. Combing crypto with a normal application which is new to all of us within a small time period. Also combining typescript and react for the front end.
What we learned: We learned the importance of a team. When working together we can innovate, bounce great ideas and help our team mates to build something better out of their ideas we all have. When we split up we put ourselves into the projects section then tied them all together and cut out all of the fluff.
What's next for Focus Fee: For the future we want the app to hold the crypto for a year to maximize profit. Leaderboards will allow competitions between friends. Releasing it as a mobile app and including display charts for total money earned, stats for each day, an official sign in page and lastly I want to start marketing it to companies and universities who can implement the app on a larger scale.
