Inspiration

Coding can be challenging, consequently, my year of hackathons from home has been enjoyable, but also full of procrastination. I've created a small GUI which I hope will help me focus on getting my code tasks done on time.

*The project is inspired by Pavlok, a watch that zaps you to help break bad habits. The GUI reminds you to stay on task by giving a visual cue. Less painful :)

What it does

User presses "focus" button when they want to act on other distractions. GUI flashes and temporarily blocks out screen. User can jot down reminders in the GUI and see summary of reminders and number of button presses in the end. GUI shows motivational quote on summary page (because I need the motivational support)

How we built it

Built GUI with tkinter. Took motivational quotes from website with JSON.

Challenges we ran into

First time using tkinter & JSON so challenges with tasks such as: switching pages, timing flashes, linking commands to buttons, changing texts, receiving JSON data.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Learning a bit of tkinter and JSON that I can apply on future projects :)

What's next for Focus Button

Improving the appearance of the GUI, adding other tools to help with procrastination, e.g. timers and to-do lists
