Inspiration
Inspired by the feeling we've all had of butterflies in your stomach once you've met someone special, Flutter is designed to give everyone that feeling of joy, discomfort and warmth. Planning dates are hard, with little time, little money and limited rizz, it's harder to plan the perfect meet-cute.
What it does
Flutter helps you fall in love. Put in things about you or, your special someone like their interests, their vibe, their aesthetic, your budget and how much time you have and Flutter will plan your perfect date. Each date is unique to the pair and destined to give each couple their moment. Designed as a B2B service Flutter's goal is to be integrated into dating apps to add a new dimension to relationships.
How we built it
We split into 2 pairs, front and back. While the funny front-enders figured their way through Figma, the busy back-enders worked their way through understanding new APIs. Using OpenAI's APIs and connecting them to Google's APIs, the funny front-enders and the busy back-enders worked their way to combine their code and create Flutter.
Challenges we ran into
For three quarters of the team, Geesehacks has been our very first hackathon. From the bathtub to the deep end, scratch that, depths of the Mariana trench, we had to learn to apply our skills in design and code our hearts out.
We also learned that sometimes, it's okay to let go. With grand ideas and UI Frameworks, the backend APIs turned out to be deadly. We learned that sometimes it's about the journey and not the final destination. Even though we had to cut out some features, we were able to pull through and create our final product.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
For three quarters of the team, Geesehacks has been our very first hackathon. We are proud of so much, we're proud of our one hackathon athlete who guided us through the mysteries of Github, APIs, Tailwind and so much more. We're also proud of us for learning so much, being able to create a full-stack application and turn our ideas into reality is a accomplishment we will never forget.
What we learned
We learned everything, how a hackathon works, how to ask mentors for help, how to make it through an all-nighter and most importantly how to work together as a newly forged team. We also learned a TON of other stuff, programming languages, going from Figma to code and learning what it means to become a part of the hacker community.
What's next for Flutter
Well, our hearts were bigger than our minds and we're missing some functionality, like the ability to choose from the recommended date ideas and a curated list with a map to guide users through their dates. The project is so close and yet so far, we plan to tune Flutter up and deploy the site for all to see.
