Inspiration

So, how did it all start? Before COVID-19 hit, I used to go grocery shopping along with my parents. I noticed that often, we could not buy the groceries we needed due to poor quality of regularly consumed vegetables and fish. Also, some vegetables were overpriced while they were semi-rotten with poor quality. And what more? Some actually smelled of pesticides! In fact, according to USA Today, an apple bought from a supermarket, on average, is one year old! Groceries are not as fresh as you may think. Supermarkets also try to deceive customers by mixing stale veggies with the fresh ones. Thus was born the idea of creating an agri-venture, in order to enable people to produce the best quality fruits and vegetables possible with my own tech twist to it.

What it does

Flourish AgriTech provides a hydroponics setup with mobile integration. We combine hydroponics and aquaponics technology along with an IoT-based quality control system. Sensors for temperature, light, water flow, pH level, etc. are powered by IoT. Continuous monitoring of the growth of veggies and fruits through these sensors allows production of best quality produce. Users can download our app and sign up to get alerts when an inconsistency in temperature, pH level, water level, etc. is detected by our sensors. Our app also shows detailed stats, charts, and graphs to monitor the daily growth of vegetables and fruits. Gone are the days of worrying, be assured with Flourish AgriTech!

How we built it

We built a prototype of the mobile app using Figma. We also developed the company website with HTML5, CSS3, Bootstrap, Javascript, Ajax, and jQuery.

Challenges we ran into

Addressing all the points for the pitch in just 3 mins was challenging because there was so much more content left to say.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I could complete making a website, app, and a pitch presentation all together in <= 36 hours!!

What we learned

I got to learn so much more about IoT technology. IoT, being a buzzword, I had heard it a bunch of times before but never had the chance to sit back, research, and explore what it offers. I definitely honed my time management skills too.

What's next for Flourish AgriTech

We are looking at actually building the hydroponics set-up in my backyard with some additional resources like NXP Rapid IoT Prototyping Kit, Texas Instruments Dual H-Bridge motor drivers L293D, etc.
