Inspiration

Uber, Pokemon Go, Snapchat Location, Tinder, Campus safety, networking for introverts

What it does

The app is built within three domain, which is safety, design, and features.

The safety domain was inspired by women safety when walking late night on campus. As of data from the source End Violence Against Women, "Two out of three women aged 16 to 34 years experienced one form of harassment in the previous 12 months; with 44% of women aged 16 to 34 years having experienced catcalls, whistles, unwanted sexual comments or jokes, and 29% having felt like they were being followed" .The app currently will let user send requests to others requesting for where they want to go, as well as the geolocation of the user. As an user sends the location and request, other users surround will be receiving message in the app, and swipe if other users would like to join the trip. Another feature of safety is that the app ultimately will be able to have a front screen button to click if any user on a trip is feeling unsafe. As any user click on the button, public safety on the campus will receive a notification and come by to check in with the group of people for safety. The other safety feature to prevent students going on danger is that the app will use facial recognition to verify each user's requests as well as people who would like to hop on the trip.

The design of the app was inspired by video game feature that will let introverts feel more comfortable with requesting trips. We specifically implemented pink feature as well as pixelated images and gif bird to corporate the video game feeling. The profile page has the star design which is correlated with the mission of letting students request trips at night. Having the theme correlated with let users feel more attached. The app also have a design of bird flying, which matches the theme of university students flying to catch dream, encouraging students to be networking with others since everyone is away from home.

The app's feature include two-factor authentication, which is the school email and the facial recognition, to help increase the safety. Main idea that needed to be addressed throughout university is always the safety issue, which we have carefully thought out how the safety issues. By having two-factor authentication and using facial recognition each time sending requests, we can ensure that students will not be in danger when requesting trips or having in touch with any harmful people. We also have features that students can see each other's location, so that students won't be put in danger when going out with someone, making sure it's the correct person.

How we built it

Domain.com, React Native, Github, Google Cloud for APIs.

Challenges we ran into

Using the react native software, downloading packages into the right directories, making buttons work, importing images for UI.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

UI, geolocation accuracy, fully running app, switching screens on app.

What we learned

-Implementing separate parts of an app into one app with Github, establishing geolocation with accuracy.

What's next for Flock

-Establish database so the users can interact with each other,
