Inspiration

Our inspiration for FlavourSwipe comes from the desire to revolutionize how people discover and experience new recipes using gamification. We wanted to create a fun and interactive way for users to explore a variety of recipes tailored to their tastes.

What it does

FlavourSwipe is a unique application that allows users to discover new recipes by swiping through them, similar to the popular Tinder app. Users can swipe right if they like a recipe or left if they want to skip to the next one. The app employs a sophisticated content-based recommendation algorithm to personalize the recipe suggestions based on the user's preferences. Additionally, FlavourSwipe has the capability to generate recipes without human interaction using ChatGPT and utilizes AI to create custom thumbnail images for each recipe.

How we built it

FlavourSwipe is built using Django for the backend and Flutter for the frontend. The powerful combination of these technologies enables a seamless and responsive user experience. We implemented our custom built AI-based recommendation algorithms to analyze user interactions and provide personalized recipe suggestions.

Challenges we ran into

During the development of FlavourSwipe, we faced challenges in fine-tuning the recommendation algorithm to ensure accurate and relevant suggestions. During development, we encountered an interesting challenge where we discovered that generating machine-readable JSON formats using ChatGPT with prompts was not optimal for practical use. Integrating the swiping functionality and maintaining a smooth user interface were also areas that required careful attention.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud to have successfully implemented a novel way for users to interact with and discover recipes. Our recommendation algorithm demonstrates the capabilities of personalized content delivery, and the integration of AI-driven recipe generation and image creation adds a cutting-edge element to the app.

What we learned

Throughout the development of FlavourSwipe, we gained valuable insights into recommendation algorithms, user interface design, and the integration of Django with Flutter. We also enhanced our collaboration and problem-solving skills as a team.

What's next for FlavourSwipe

While we may not actively develop FlavourSwipe further, we are committed to keeping it as an open-source project on GitHub. We encourage the community to contribute, explore, and potentially take the project to new heights like 50 billion dollars. The open nature of FlavourSwipe allows developers to build upon our work and create innovative solutions in the realm of recipe discovery and recommendation apps.
