Inspiration

Have you found yourself unsure what to order? Do you want to try your friends' recommendations? Tired of ordering the same thing every time? Flavorite is the perfect website for you! Our inspiration for this website was to create a place where like-minded foodies can connect and share recipes, food, and restaurants. There's social media for pretty much everything these days - so it was inevitable that there would have to be one to share food! As food enthusiasts ourselves, we decided that we would take action and create a space for people to come together over food and recipes!

Beats its Competition:

Flavorite is the first of its kind to uniquely show personalized recommendations from friends rather than strangers. Furthermore, we prioritize inspiration and sharing, not food delivery. Finally, we organize and record information of your favorite foods in an easily accessible way. Flavorite will be profitable site as well as we will have advertisements from restaurants on the explore page.

What it does

Our website allows users to post about food, restaurants, and recipes! People can connect with each other and bond over food. You can learn, share, and explore new recipes, food, and cooking hacks. This platform can be used by anyone, whether you're an amateur chef or 5-star baker. If you'd like to surprise order food for your friends, just check out their recent favorite meals and order away! It brings people from all over the world together, to try new food and cuisines.

How we built it

We built our project collaboratively on the platform Glitch. We used HTML, CSS, and JavaScript code!

Challenges we ran into

As we are in different time zones, we ran into challenges with finding a common time to collaborate virtually. Although, we were able to work together and learn communication, time management, and collaboration skills! We are all also relatively beginner coders, so we also had to learn a lot to be able to create our website! Two of us had just worked with HTML and CSS to build a full-fledged project for the very first time! It took some collaboration, Googling, and late-night determination!

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of being able to finish our interactive website within 24 hours! As beginner coders, that is a huge accomplishment for us. We are also proud that we were able to learn so much and meet new people!

What we learned

We learned so much throughout this Hackathon project! We learned new coding skills, teamwork, and time-management skills. We learned how to use HTML and CSS from scratch, learning, teaching, and guessing together along the way! We learned how to work together, use Glitch, and transform an idea into a reality. We are so grateful for this opportunity!

What's next for Flavorite

Flavorite will continue to grow and expand. After GraceHacks, we hope to expand the features of our website to make it 100% functional and available for the public to use!

This project was made by Dishita Jhawar, Katie Ho, and Indu Gadiraju at Grace Hacks 2022.
