Inspiration
We were inspired to create FlameClaim after recognizing the overwhelming stress fire victims face when filing insurance claims amidst the fires in LA country. We wanted to simplify this process, empower users, and provide a tool to help them recover more efficiently.
What it does
FlameClaim helps users easily create a detailed inventory of items lost in a fire. By using past photos from their camera roll, users can identify and catalog belongings, upload receipts for valuation, and generate a formatted report ready for insurance claims. The app streamlines the claims process, reducing stress and saving time.
How we built it
We built FlameClaim with a user-first approach, focusing on simplicity and accessibility. The app integrates photo management features to retrieve past images and a categorization system to organize belongings in those images. We also incorporated functionality for uploading receipts and generating comprehensive reports for claims.
Challenges we ran into
One of our biggest challenges was designing the machine learning system. Ensuring compatibility with various photo formats and organizing items into meaningful categories were also key hurdles.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We’re proud of creating an app that addresses a real need in a practical and impactful way. Simplifying the complex and often overwhelming claims process for fire victims is something we deeply value.
What we learned
Through this project, we learned the importance of user interface—understanding users’ pain points and crafting solutions that truly meet their needs. We found it was important to develop a UI that was easy to use and accessible to anyone who may need its services.
