Inspiration
As a frequent shopper for online clothes, Sam would always be disappointed when a shirt he bought just barely didn't fit. Websites tell you slightly different things and you never really know what size you'll need to order. That's where fits.me comes in.
fit.me
Our product is a B2B (Business to Business) infrastructure for trying out clothing online. The way it works is you create a login which stores a 3D model representing you with various body dimensions. As you may shop for different clothing on different websites, this login would be available on multiple sites such as H&M, Uniqlo, Banana Republic, etc. Simply choose the piece of clothing you want to try, and check not only if it fits, but if it suits you well or not.
How we built it
The information/interest site was created on node.js using a library called three.js, which is built on webGL. This shows a brief overview of the model with different shirt textures. We then filmed a promotional video showcasing why businesses should be interested in providing our product on their respective sites.
Challenges we ran into
We worked on slightly different parts of the site each at random times, so merging was quite tedious and could not be resolved with a simple merge request through our version control. Additionally, figuring out how to load different clothing textures was difficult, but we were able to figure it out and even have plans on streamlining this for further development.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're quite proud of the video we produced while working on the website concurrently.
What we learned
We learned how to use three.js for displaying 3D models on a webpage as well as switching the texture of it instantly. We also learned some different ways we can approach the textures so a user can eventually be as comfortable ordering clothes as possible.
What's next for fits.me
Being a B2B product, the next steps are of course, sell our product as an infrastructure to major clothing brands.
