Inspiration After 22 years of selling on eBay and 12 years as a top brand on Amazon, I saw how traditional platforms unfairly treated small businesses—through high fees, restrictive rules, and lack of direct customer interaction. When my company lost 40% of its business overnight due to an algorithm change, I knew something had to change. That’s when the idea for Fisheez was born—to give control back to the people and build a fairer, decentralized platform.
What it does Fisheez is a blockchain-powered platform for securely trading goods and services. It operates outside the traditional banking system and free from CBDCs, ensuring secure, transparent, and low-cost transactions. Fisheez supports everything from physical products to digital services and introduces an escrow system for services—filling a crucial gap in today’s marketplace.
How we built it We built Fisheez on Ethereum and are launching on Coinbase’s Layer 2 blockchain, BASE. Smart contracts handle transactions, and Chainlink integration ensures real-world data, like delivery confirmations, are embedded into the process. Our platform prioritizes security, transparency, and community governance, allowing members to vote on platform decisions.
Challenges we ran into We initially planned to launch on the Polygon Matic blockchain, but when regulators began suing Polygon last year, we had to pivot quickly. This led us to focus on Switzerland as our launch hub, which turned out to be a blessing in disguise. By working with MME Legal—who were instrumental in starting the Ethereum Foundation—we rebuilt the platform in compliance with Europe’s new regulatory framework. Their guidance not only helped us navigate the legal landscape but also positioned Fisheez to be fully compliant with groundbreaking laws like MiCA. This shift allowed us to future-proof the platform and ensure its scalability and success in the European market.
Accomplishments that we're proud of Our team is incredibly proud to be building a platform that truly empowers people. One of our most exciting accomplishments is partnering with the Water 150 Foundation for our first charity initiative. They're a fantastic organization using blockchain technology to provide sustainable water solutions to communities around the world. This partnership embodies Fisheez's commitment to not only creating a fairer marketplace but also making a tangible social impact globally.
What we learned Building Fisheez taught us the importance of community governance in decentralized platforms. We realized that users need more than just a trading platform—they need to feel empowered, secure, and involved in decision-making. We also learned that while blockchain offers great solutions for transparency and security, making it user-friendly and compliant with regulations is just as important.
What's next for Fisheez Our next steps include expanding Fisheez into key markets like the EU, UK, and USA, and continually refining our escrow system. We’re also exploring partnerships with nonprofits to strengthen our social impact initiatives. Additionally, we'll focus on developing more AI-driven features to enhance the user experience and further decentralize governance, allowing our community to have even more control over the platform’s future.
