Inspiration

Nearly 40% of community college students drop out for financial reasons, not academic ones. We wanted to teach real financial literacy through a game students would actually replay.

What it does

Fiscal Fight is a 12-week browser game where you play one of four community college students. Each week brings a curveball — a car repair, a scholarship deadline, a predatory loan offer — and your choices shift your Cash, Credit, Stress, Debt, and Scholarship IQ. At the end, you get a 0.0–4.0 Financial GPA and an AI debrief.

How we built it

Vanilla HTML, CSS, and JavaScript — no frameworks. Split into three layers: data.js for content, core.js for OOP game logic, and app.js for UI. We styled the whole thing with a Cute Fantasy pixel-art theme using Press Start 2P and VT323 fonts.

Challenges we ran into

Balancing the economy so the game was challenging but fair. Writing authentic characters without stereotyping. Some late-night git chaos after a force-push.
