Although we have very little in regards to finished software, we learned so much! We came to the Unhackathon with the project ambition of (sarcastically) building an OS. First we thought we would try to create a very simple iOS app. The problem was one of our team members had Windows while the others had OS X. The team member with Windows (Lance) tried to install Ubuntu so they could all collaborate in XCode. Due to his lack of knowledge he failed to properly install Ubuntu and he also wiped his entire computer clean of Windows. From here they learned how to properly install Ubuntu and the importance of having recovery disks before messing with operating systems. After this, they tried creating an app with Leap. The idea was to create a small piano that could be played using the Leap sensor. For an experienced hacker, I sure you can guess this went nowhere. So many things to install and so many error messages!! But at the same time we were having fun trying new things! Next we decided to install Ruby on Rails and see if we could create something with that. It took forever to finally install all the necessary libraries and other stuff needed. After talking to someone from Major League Hackers, we decided to ditch Ruby on Rails and work with a simplier language in Sinatra. From Sinatra we created a very simple web page and tried to use authorization through Twitter. Other things we tried and learned about were Sublime, Atom, Github, Omyzsh, how to use Terminal, and many other things! Overall it was a great experience, and we know we have much more to learn in the future!
