Inspiration
Every February, under the right conditions, sunlight streams through a sliver of Horsetail Falls in Yosemite National Park, giving the appearance of fire falling down the side of the mountain.
What it does
Hovers mountain scene over horizontal surfaces and provides a "FireFall" waterfall effect.
How I built it
I used Lens Studio and Unity. Unity was used to pull down models from Unity Assets and export to an FBX file.
Challenges I ran into
I had trouble figuring out how to get the models I used out of Unity to FBX files. I finally learned there is a Unity add-on to export to FBX that doesn't come installed by default.
VFX Graph is very powerful but I am still struggling to get the hang of it.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I was able to modify the water fountain graph to get the amber "fire" effect I wanted.
What I learned
I learned how to export models to FBX for import into Lens Studio. I also learned how to add modifiers to the VFX graph to get the results I want.
What's next for FireFalls
More interactive elements in the scene and perhaps some other National Park themed Lenses.
