Inspiration

FinGrit was inspired by the challenge many people face in managing their personal finances. Tracking expenses, planning budgets, and saving for goals can be overwhelming without the right tools. We wanted to build a platform that makes personal finance simple, transparent, and empowering — helping users take control of their money and plan for the future.

What it does

FinGrit is a personal finance management platform that helps users:

• Track income, expenses, and savings in real-time.
• Set financial goals.
• Visualize spending patterns with interactive charts and dashboards.

FinGrit transforms scattered receipts, bank statements, and mental calculations into a clear, organized, and actionable financial overview.

How we built it

Building FinGrit combined design, development, and problem-solving:

• Frontend: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Bootsrap and ApexCharts for interactive dashboards.
• Backend: PHP with MySQL for secure transaction recording and analytics.

We used modular architecture, Git version control, and environment-based configuration (.env) for scalability and maintainability. Iterative design and user feedback ensured the platform is intuitive and effective.

Challenges we ran into

• Data accuracy: Ensuring all transactions and budgets are correctly recorded and reflected in dashboards.
• User engagement: Designing a system that encourages regular use without being overwhelming.
• Visualization: Displaying financial trends and patterns clearly and meaningfully.
