Inspiration
The inspiration for FindIt is the following: One day I went to my brother because I was bored. He told me to read a book so I listened to him. I went to look for a book that I was reading but I couldn't find it. I wasn't able to find the book at all and this made me think: "There has to be something for this." But there was nothing, so I decided to make it myself. I started production by myself and the got two awesome teammates. I thought of the name because i thought in my mind that if I had this app beforehand I would've been able to find-it. FindIt is now currently pending publication for the app store.
What it does
FindIt is very complex but simple to use. This is how it works: Imagine you have just inherited an Antique Necklace from one of your ancestors. This Necklace becomes very important and you don't want to lose it. So you download FindIt form the app store. You first go to "add item" and you write the name of your item. In this case: Antique Necklace. Then you write where you left it and what category is it. After you finish the 3 questions you press submit. This goes to our Firebase Database and it gets saved. Now 2 weeks later your mom is coming home from her trip and she would like to see the antique necklace. So you go to look for it but you can't find it. So you go to FindIt and you search up antique necklace. You find where you last put it and you go to that place to find the necklace. You then find it and you are relieved. But what if you forgot what you called it. That's why FindIt has a "Your Items" page. The "your items" page let's you search through your items with category. So say you don't remember what you called it so you go to the your items page and look in important. Then you see your antique necklace click on it and that will open a page telling you where you last left it. Now you know where it is and you don't need to search for hours. FindIt can also help save you money because now if something that is worth a lot is in your possession but you don't want to lose because then it will cost you a lot of money to replace it, so you use FindIt. In the future if you ever lose it you won't need to buy a spare because you used FindIt to make sure that you never lose that important item.
How we built it
We built FindIt with Android Studio. With Android Studio we wrote the code with Kotlin and we created a database with Firebase. The way we put it together was exporting to zip files and then sending it to each other. After the project was done, one person on the team committed the code for the final product on github. This is how we built this app.
Who is this designed for
FindIt is designed to be easy for anybody to use. It's simple colors and calming theme can make anybody calm. FindIt was designed to be complex but easy to use and that goal has been reached.
Why FindIt can help an Economical Society.
FindIt can help an Economical Society because it can help people from losing valuables that cost a lot of money. A big scale example of this of a school using FindIt to know where the teachers left the school's laptop's and such for the school. This could help save the school a large sum of money. On a common scale, we sometimes buy multiple spares of products because we know we will forget where it is. Or we may even forgot we have it in the first place. Another point is that it saves time. And as the sayings mentioned, time equals money.
What winning means to us
Winning this hackathon means a lot to this group. First off winning this hackathon would give this group a boost of motivation to our whole team but it would also motivate our team to keep working on apps such as FindIt, apps that people think can help the people in this world. This is what winning means to FindIt.
What we learned
What we learned is that if you work together anything is possible, and that if you put your mind to it you can change the world and also shape the future!
What's next for FindIt
FindIt is currently pending publication for going on the app store. The developers of FindIt are currently planning to create a pro version of FindIt that has better features and will be on the app store in the future. We are also planning to improve the flow of the app, and expand it to be compatible with all devices.FindIt was very fun to create and the FindIt developers will continue to grow this project. Look out for a new update soon!
