Inspiration
The recent Covid-19 pandemic has had significant psychological and social effects on the population.To mitigate the feeling of loneliness,people flock to social media sites to get their fix of social interactions.While there are many social media applications for people to communicate over,none of them empahsizes people's personalities when pairing them with someone else.As a result,the two users have a hard time getting along which could lead to frustrations and further exacerbate the the feeling of loneliness.Our app takes a different approach and tries to address this issue.
What it does
Our app puts heavy emphasis on people's personalities before pairing them with someone with a similar personality profile.Therefore,right off the bat the two users do not feel like they are talking to a total stranger but somneone who share similar interests and understandings.We have additional features that enable the users to break the ice and talk more freely about their favourite hobbies,places to visit,food etc.
How we built it
We used React JS for the frontend and firebase for backend auth and database.
Challenges we ran into
Since it was our first time working with Firebase and React together, we had issues implementing some core features like the chat room and authentication.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are incredibly proud of how it turned out in the end. Especially, learning React in such a short time and implementing most of the features. Everyone worked as a cohesive unit to make it possible.

How to work with React and firebase as well as developing software in a team environment efficiently.
What's next for FindAPeer
We plan on expanding our features list by adding video conferencing, webscraping to find activities to talk about in chat rooms and a points system that allows users to unlock coupon codes etc.
