How we built it
This page is built from HTML, Javascript and CSS.
Challenges we ran into
We began with four teammates, two with no coding experience, one with CS 401 knowledge and one with a stronger background in backend code(C#) and some knowledge of front end. We spent Friday night downloading software and teaching crash courses in high level coding. The plan was to develop an Android app using an add-on for Visual Studio called Xamarin, which allows you to code Android apps using C#, and drag and drop layout design. We got started on the basics Friday night.
Saturday we lost a team member, then we made some progress on the app, setting up the initial welcome screen, and then we began implementing Google Maps, and ran into a lot of technical difficulties that had more to do with what packages and things we had or hadn't downloaded and restrictions due to antivirus software that we couldn't seem to resolve. We were unable to download packages that we needed. At about 12:30 we decided we were wasting too much time on technical difficulties that we didn't fully understand, and changed our plan.
Then we spent about 7.5 hours building a webpage from HTML, Javascript and CSS. These languages were completely new to two of our team members. We felt a bit overwhelmed with a lot of syntax that we were not familiar with, and it took the help of a few mentors to work through those issues.
Implementing the Google API is hard sometimes.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We have a finished product! (Kind of)
What we learned
We learned about: higher level coding and object oriented design (C#, Javascript, HTML). We learned that we're not big fans of Javascript. We learned how to stretch ourselves, and the appreciate all the apps on our phones. We did learn a good amount about app development for the Android platform, and feel pretty good about maybe trying it again sometimes (but not implementing Google Maps next time.)
