Inspiration
My inspiration was the gender gap and inequality in STEM.
What it does
The website:
- Has a directory of tech companies with ratings on what it is like to be a female employee there. All the ratings are done by female-identifying employees at those companies.
- Gives inspiration for women to begin a path in STEM through YouTube videos, podcasts, and articles.
- Provides resources for women to get started learning about STEM.
- I aimed it more towards a younger demographic (high school students-college students), as I'm a high school student myself, but I believe it is useful at any age.
How I built it
I built it on Qoom using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
Challenges I ran into and what I learned
With this website, I tried a lot of new things I've never done before. Firstly, I decided to style the website as a continuous one-pager. Secondly, I tried using JavaScript to create the "Scroll to Top" button. Thirdly, I added a contact form. This was my first time coding all of these features, so I ran into a lot of trouble, especially with the syntax and how to put it all together. At the end, I learned to compromise and figure out different ways to approach what I was stuck on. I learned a lot of new things in different languages, especially JavaScript.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I'm proud of being able to complete everything I wanted in the time frame. At first, I wasn't sure if I could do it, but I did it. Of course, there's still much to work on. I'm also proud of being able to learn new skills in different languages.
What's next for Femploy
I hope to add more content to it (more companies, more inspiration, more resources, more everything!), clean up the UI/UX, and inspire more women to explore STEM!
