Inspiration

I live close to a pig farm - arguably the largest one in west Africa (at least that's what the internet proclaimed at the time). Its been possibly over a decade since i discovered this fact and till today the farm maintains a monolithic structure with its merchandise operations. My mum used to own a pen (an alias for "commercial pig sty") , and was quite a prominent farmer , so i have a fair amount of knowledge on the affairs of farmers as well ad the problems they faced. One of which was getting buyers to sell their pigs to . The only way was to tell others by word of mouth nothing ambiguous. Ten years later and that has been the way things ran there, seeing this i realized this uncharted field that i could create a solution for. Hence FarmSpeyce!!.

What it does

Farmspeyce is a platform that connects farmers to the prospective "buyers" , potential customers have to option to sign up either as a farm owner or as a buyer. The platform provisions customers with a virtual wallet - which means that money could be deposited onto the platform to pay for merch (terms allow for either butchered pork or livestock eg: pigglest, weaners, etc) to be sold on the platform).

How we built it

Farmspeyce's prototype was designed with the aid of a python web-framework (Flask). Consequently we employed the use of a PaaS platform for its hosting (heroku). Its design was modelled as a REST api,etc..

Challenges we ran into

Time Management, deciphering how models would work for a practical use-case (we had to settle for a simple strip down version for the the prototype)

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Being able to submit(something!!) in under 3hours (to the submission deadline)

What we learned

Team spirit, regardless of the challenges and the fact that some teammates ( or at the very least potential ones) bailed out on use. we focused on the task at hand and pushed through to the best of our ability.

What's next for Farmspeys

I (i'm Paul) see Farmspeyce as a solution rather than just a "submission", and while my team may not be selected as a winning team ( i believe that there's tons of people out there who need this - we could revolutionize an entire industry if we play our cards right) .
