Inspiration
Our mission is to assist with times of political distress by offering refugees and people in need doctors and various supplies and various resources like medical, food, water, and shelter. We believe staying connected is of the utmost importance, especially for those affected by the war in Ukraine.
What it does
Families United reconnects families who have been separated by the war in Ukraine. We provide an interactive map to show the placement of resources like medical aid and shelter. The community tab allows you to connect with your DeSo friends and family to have a decentralized way to connect with family. We provide a list of resources for medical, housing, water and sanitation, and shelter. Doctors of these medical facilities can request the patients’ medical records using smart contracts and the wallet address provided by the user’s primary care provider. Lastly, users can submit a URL to check if the news outlet is disinformation or not.
How we built it
We built this app using HTML and javascript for the front end. We use smart contracts using MetaMask and Remix to run requests for medical records. We use Hedera to speed up the contract process. Before, the contracts would pend for 2-10 min, but after using Hedera, we got it down to a few seconds. We use Google Cloud to store the doctor’s information and parse it in the smart contract. Lastly, we use DeSo to sign in to our site and connect with your DeSo friends.
Challenges we ran into
Some of the challenges we ran into include the integration of all of the various technologies together to form a cohesive and robust project. For our group using so many different blockchains with little experience was definitely a challenge. The Hedera Hashgraph blockchain was uncharted territory and being able to format contracts with and test on their testnet was very challenging. Also with google cloud, we were challenged with the many options that we had to choose from to integrate its functionality. Once choosing one even more challenges presented themselves, for example, google custom functions and terminology lie buckets
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We were very proud as a group to accomplish the overall look of our front end. We incorporated many different colors and new design patterns which allowed us to integrate maps on a few of our pages. On the backend, there were many different accomplishments some to include the construction of our AI which hosts many different challenges we were able to overcome. Along with this our ability to conjoin the many different blockchain technologies like DeSo and Hedera together on one project was amazing. Also figuring out the account setting and private key needs for storing on the cloud was a huge accomplishment
What we learned
Some of our key takeaways include geographical locations that are around Ukraine, how to create smart contracts with Hedera and apply them usefully, using design patterns that help to form a conducive theme to our topic, we learned many things about MetaMask and authentication, the Ethereum network, and we also learned a lot about the Sass offered by google cloud and there company exclusive function and syntax
What's next for Families United
Next, we will be working on creating a mobile app for both iOS and Android users that may not have access to our web app through other methods, We also refactor and improve our AI to ensure to create a safe environment through CI/CD improvements in disinformation filtering, we will also expand our storage and data collection capabilities for predictive software and also to store more resources, like medical aid for users
