Inspiration

During the CoVid-19 pandemic, most of us spend lots of time at home with our families. This led to some of us realize that there were many miscommunications in the daily life of a family. Brand new food getting ruined after nobody mentioning its existence to others, everyone avoiding a house task due to thinking it is another person's job, or even forgetting that one of the members of the family has a very important meeting at a set date. To prevent these kinds of problems, we came up with a solution. An app that would remind these facts to each of the family members. A virtual pinboard that's available from the comfort of a phone. An application called FamHub

What it does

Using the Firebase service of Google, FamHub hosts Families. These families have unique ID's and are password protected, so only people who are "really" part of your family can be a part of your Family. Each Family shares 3 types of content across all of its users: Sticky-Notes, Food-Notes, or Special Dates. All of these types have several unique functions. This functions are then shared on a drive-like structure where the members of the hub can see these content and be reminded of them in set intervals.

How we built it

We used building the Kivy library of Python.

Challenges we ran into

Since we did not have any prior knowledge of Kivy, we had to learn lots of information in a very short amount of time. Also our experiences with Firebase were limited, so the back-end side of the development was also challenging.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are extremely proud that we were able to produce a prototype that is in line with our goals in such a short amount of time. Although there are some rough edges on our app, we are proud with the core concepts that we were able to realize.

What we learned

We learned a lot about Kivy and Firebase. Also we learned a lot about proper time management and division of labor. However, the most important thing we learned is how to work as a team under extremely stressful situations.

What's next for FamHub

Besides bug fixes, we plan on establishing mobile ports of this app. Also we plan on redoing some of the design aspects of the app.
