Inspiration
Our inspiration to build FairShareFinancial was so consumers could utilize budgeting tools to be more secure in their financial futures. Budgeting is an extremely important way people can stay on track with their finances and by making it free, easy, and accessible, we are ensuring we can reach as many communities as possible.
What it does
FairShareFinancial gives people from all backgrounds the opportunity to manage their finances in a way that will allow them to plan for the future. By asking one simple question, we can build a model that displays a recommendation for how a user should budget their monthly disposable income, based on the widely followed 50/30/20 budgeting rule.
How we built it
To create this project, we used HTML and CSS.
Challenges we ran into
One of the main challenges we ran into was simply navigating a hackathon for the first time. Everyone in the group is at a beginner/intermediate stage so learning HTML, CSS, and focusing on attending events with appropriate time management was our biggest concern coming into HackUTD.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
All the members of our team were beginners/intermediate and did not have much prior project-building experience at hackathons. We are proud that we were able to learn HTML and CSS fundamentals to build our website.
What we learned
Aside from the numerous technical experiences, we also learned about other aspects of building projects, such as design thinking. We also experienced different aspects of software engineering we hadn't been exposed to yet and felt we each learned a lot about our preferences.
What's next for FairShareFinancial
In the future, we want to develop FairShareFin! into an app, so people can access their budgets wherever they are, and on the go! We would also like to implement AUTH0 into our project so that users can feel more at ease when sharing their financial information with us.
