Inspiration

Gong Xi Fa Cai. May you be prosperous! The phrase denotes congratulations and prosperity. That’s where the root of our inspiration comes from. We'd like to make your life full of Fa Cai, where financial well-being is just one click away.

What it does

Fa Cai is an application that predicts future inflation rates and crafts a personal report for each user to help them plan their finances ahead of inflation.

How we built it

We used the US census Inflation Data and used R studio to code an R shiny web app. We implemented an ARIMA model and built both a frontend and backend within R.

Challenges we ran into

Implementing new packages in R was challenging since we had minimal previous experience using certain data analysis tools and user-interface formatting tools. We had trouble with extracting the predicted data from our model and rendering the summary page. We resolved this issue after several hours of troubleshooting.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud of the fact that we, as underclassmen, were able to develop an interactive app in less than 24 hours in our first datathon/hackathon.

What we learned

We learned about how to properly integrate a complex frontend and backend system, and use data to build visualizations while relying on user input. Additionally, we learned data structures and how it can be a powerful tool that allows us to predict trends and future values, useful to our integration
