Inspiration
In King Abdullah Financial District (KAFD) the process of garbage disposal and collection is automated. In addition to the news every year about the increase in waste.
What it does
The system will provide the ability of making the process of garbage collection more efficient and help in keeping the hajj areas clean.
EZALAH is a waste management framework.
This framework is driven by a network of smart trash cans which i'll call Ezalah Cans. The Ezalah cans will continuously send data to the cloud about: it's location, how full it is at the moment. This data will be utilized in Ezalah Analytics which is dashboard that will display the state of the of all trash cans with indicators on how full they are. Based on the continuous analysis, the Garbage Collectors will receive a prioritized list of locations on their Ezalah Collect App, then they will head to the first trash can to collect it. The second module of this framework is a request based system, Ezalah Request. This system will be utilized by campaign managers to request for trash to be collected from their camps. The request with the necessary details will be sent to a ticketing system on Ezalah Analytics. Then dedicated collectors will receive list of destination for these on-demand requests. To use feature the campaign managers will need to pay subscription fee.
How we built it
We will be using HTML, JavaScript and Power Bi to build the web pages and dashboard. Android to develop the mobile applications. Nodejs to serve to web pages and DB.
Challenges we ran into
We had difficulties with integrating our systems and apps. (Connecting the mobile application to the ticketing system) We were too ambitious and underestimated the workload that would be required from this kind of idea.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We managed to come up with a solid idea that has a lot of potential. Returned to programming after 2 year of not doing so.
What we learned
It is not easy to participate in a Hackathon when your programming/dev skills are rusty. We learned to use new tools/framework such as Ionic, Figma, and MongoDB.
What's next for EZALAH
Hopefully will be able to drive our strategy and vision for waste management further and proceed to the next stages of this project.
