Inspiration

The rising number of workplace accidents and health concerns from employee fatigue inspired ExpertZzz. Wearable technology offers potential for solving it.

What it does

Tracks employees’ heart rates via smartwatches and evaluates their relaxation levels compared to their alertness baseline. Provides real-time insight into an employee's state, signaling if intervention (e.g., a break) is necessary. Generates periodic reports to help optimize schedules, allocate tasks, and improve overall workplace safety.

How we built it

Tech Stack: SwiftUI, Swift, HealthKit to gather heart rate and related metrics. Firebase to send data to. Streamlit for the manager dashboard.

Challenges

Xcode and watchOS Setup: Getting the development environment to work consistently with watchOS simulators was wasting a lot of my time.

What's next for ExpertZzz

Enable managers to receive alerts when an employee's alertness falls below safe thresholds. Expand to industries like aviation, manufacturing, and emergency services, where fatigue management is critical. Use machine learning to predict fatigue trends and recommend optimized schedules and breaks.
