The Excessive Compositive's Composting system

What it does

Our system uses organic waste (such as banana peels and uneaten food) to produce both compost and methane, which we can then use to help our community. Compost provides rich nutrients for plants and things that grow in the soil, and methane can be used to make electricity or heat things.

How we built it

We weren't actually able to build a working prototype in the time we were allotted, but we made 3D models and cardboard mockups to show our idea.

Challenges we ran into

  • Organization was a big challenge at first, as we didn't have a set idea to work off of, and continually talked over one another trying to think of a problem.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud of how we were able to come together, while simultaneously delegating responsibility between us. Each group member had their own niche in the group, but together had an overall coordination and common understanding of a goal.

What we learned

We learned a lot about how our choices affect the world around us. For example, something as seemingly insignificant as throwing away table scraps, can lead to higher emissions
