In 2018, we stumbled upon a shocking statistic from the United States Environmental Protection Agency: the average American was found to contribute a staggering 94.22 pounds of CO2 emissions every single day. As we made our way to high school, the sight of trash piled up on the sidewalks became a familiar scene. It was impossible to overlook the improper disposal of waste in recycling and trash bins. Even peering out of our classroom window, we couldn't escape the thick clouds of harmful smoke emitted by passing traffic. Our community was in decline. Motivated by this urgent issue, we conceived Everyday Simulator as a response. Our simulation immerses you in the average week of an American worker, presenting scenarios and choices that impact your environmental footprint. Just like in the real world, a weekly amount of sustenance (basic living expenses) must be met. Your decisions either contribute to or mitigate the environmental impact. The interface displays two bars: one for your pollution contribution and the other for your available funds. Balancing these bars is crucial for success. Encounter thought-provoking questions that challenge you to balance environmental responsibility and financial considerations. Some choices prioritize financial gains at the expense of the environment, while others promote environmental well-being with potential financial implications. Be mindful, as filling the pollution bar or depleting your money bar leads to losing the game. Our game aims to balance personal well-being and environmental conservation harmoniously. We believe it's possible for individuals to live financially sound lives while also making meaningful contributions to our environment. We recognize that aligning personal needs with environmental support can be challenging. To put things into perspective, the average American currently generates approximately 4.4 pounds of trash per day, amounting to a staggering 1584 pounds per year per person. Considering our global population of nearly 8 billion people, the state of our environment is undeniably critical. However, even small changes can have a significant impact, and it all begins with a single individual. Everyday Simulator walks through realistic situations highlighting positive lifestyle changes anyone can execute. Together, we can make a positive difference. Creating an interactive simulation was difficult, so we used code.org since it is very easy to design. We uploaded the code into Replit in order to make it look like a website We faced difficulties in matching real life to the game world as realistically as possible. We learned valuable skills related to game design and specific environmental statistics.
