Inspiration
After each of us saw our own grandparents struggle with social isolation, and being unable to use technology to its fullest extent, we were inspired to create this project to help them connect with other people.
What it does
Our project, “Everything Elderly” aims to ease the psychological impact of social isolation among older populations by catering to the needs and interests of older users of technology. By utilizing an interface with vibrant colors, large sans-serif text, and a minimalist, and easy-to-navigate design, we effectively offer older users the chance to make complete use of technology.
How we built it
We built our project website using code in HTML and CSS. Our interface designs were initially drawn using PowerPoint, which we then translated into HTML code.
Challenges we ran into
All of the members have never participated in a hackathon before this, and most of us have little experience with programming. We overcame this challenge by actively meeting through video conferences to discuss, coordinate, and essentially bring our website to life!
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We’re most proud of fulfilling our vision for this project, given the time constraint and that this is our first hackathon.
What we learned
We learned to build a website from scratch using HTML and CSS.
What's next for Everything Elderly
Our hope is to continue to expand Everything Elderly so that every elder worldwide can access our website and utilize it to its full extent.
