Inspiration
Let's dive into the Halloween spirit! As I was thinking of a new project idea, it came onto me: what could be a better tribute to Halloween than sharing a scary story? People from all around the globe have participated in this long standing tradition. In the end, I settled on creating a text-based RPG, merging our passion for video games with the essence of this beloved holiday. My aim is to develop a game that can be enjoyed by both teenagers and adults on a spooky Halloween night.
What it does
"Eternal Shadows" tells the story of a man trapped in the residence of an evil cult. Within the malevolent walls, he ventures through superstitious rooms, each filled with dangerous artifacts that demand his caution and wisdom. The ghost of death is always lurking at every turn. It is your job to guide him to escape and avoid harm.
How we built it
To bring this project to life, I harnessed the capabilities of web development tools to craft a visually captivating application. The frontend of this application is constructed using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Vite, which significantly bolsters its performance.
On the backend, I've employed Node, a trusted technology, to provide players with a seamlessly efficient experience.
Challenges we ran into
One of the challenges I encountered revolved around designing for the user interface to change to align with the plot as it continues, since UI has the power to set the mood and ambiance for the entire game.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The most formidable hurdle I encountered was around establishing the logic of the story, given its multiple storylines. Every decision the player has the potential to change the plot in a different direction. I take pride in the creation of the pleasing user interface.
What we learned
Working on the project allowed me to practice working in a time crunch and building projects from the ground up. I was also able to gain experience with modern web development tools such as HTML, CSS, and Javascript.
What's next for Eternal Shadows
I plan to add more to the storyline and upgrade the user interface to allow for an even smoother user experience. My aim is to develop a game that can be enjoyed by both teenagers and adults on a spooky Halloween night.
